Camps vs. Online tutorials

I just have this idea. I know that there are many camps for volleyball, and many coaching clinics that teach coaches and players how to play and coach better. Could there ever be online volleyball tutorials, and could they compete with universities and other organizations that are running camps. I know that there are many videos out there that show coaches good drills to use in practice, but are there videos and online resources that teach the players better technique and skills. I could see how a player could use a video that is aimed for a coach to make practice better, but I have never really heard of a video or website that is directed toward and individual player.

Interesting idea! My initial thoughts on this is that it's going to be a challenge to be able to make this something profitable enough for someone to try. Were I going to try, something along the lines of this format would be my first draft on how to make it work: There would be a "generic" video that clients/players would have access to, showcasing sound fundamentals, with a detailed explanation from head-to-toe on what the player is doing and why they are doing it.

On top of that, I think the service would be most beneficial if a player was to send in game film, at which point the "coach" would send back detailed pros/cons, chronologically ordered. Example: "2:45 - The attacker successfully hit an off-speed shot that caught you off guard. Notice how you dig your heels into the ground, which makes your first step sluggish. On top of that, notice the attacker's elbow dropping before contacting the ball. Work on doing a power step to stay light on your feet, and look for 'tells' from the attacker so you can anticipate and not just react!"

Just my first impression. What's your thoughts on that?

Thanks for leaving a post. I think your idea is a great one. It would not be that hard of a service to start either. I think that what you are saying would be beneficial to the player. Something else to think about would be having a video made for the player not only explaining what the athlete was doing wrong, but also showing him the right ways of doing it.

That makes a lot of sense. All it would take is a decent video editor, you could even split screen it, one half being the game film, the other half being the "coach" doing the explanations/demonstrations. It would be even better than a game film session with a coach, because right then and there they can see the example of how it's properly done.

Perhaps we're on to something!
